Family school


Dear future parents
, we invite you to participate in our family school lectures (held in Estonian) that take place in the women's counselling centre of Pärnu Hospital in auditorium D 120 (first floor), starting at 16.00. One family school lecture costs 4.80 EUR for the family, the fee can be paid in the reception when coming to the lecture.

Antenatal classes can help you and your partner to prepare for labour,birth and early parenthood. Some classes focus mostly on labour and birth, while others guide you through late pregnancy, and what life with a newborn baby will be like.

 

In addition to lectures we have different activities and services in Rehabilitation and Well-Being Centre

  • yoga and gymnastics for pregnant women

  • infant/ baby swimming classes
  • individual swimming for infants 
  • playschool for babies

Topics of Family school:

The role of support person - here we try different methods of helping a woman. Lecture is held by a midwife Natalja Gusseva

For fathers – family’s development during pregnancy, support during delivery, new role after the child is born, growing into a parent, sexuality and continuing everyday life after the child is born, being a parent - all that through the eyes of a man. The lecture is intended only for men, to all future fathers. The lecture is read by a psychologist/recreational therapist Helar Peterson.

Relieving delivery pains – we talk more about relieving delivery pains with medication and water birth, we watch a movie. The lecture is read by an anaesthesiologist Karmen Koppel and a midwife Jelena Laanemets.

Delivery – we talk about how the delivery begins, when to go to the hospital, what to take with you and how the admission to the department is conducted. We talk about the delivery periods and activities conducted during delivery, we watch a movie. The lecture is read by a midwife Elve Hunt. Breastfeeding – we talk about breast milk and the necessity of breastfeeding, look at different nursing positions, talk about potential problems with breastfeeding, and watch a movie. The lecture is read by a midwife Jelena Laanemets.

Caring for a newborn – we talk about how a newborn adapts in the maternity hospital, peculiarities of a newborn’s age, and caring for a newborn. We talk about restless children: reasons and how to behave. The lecture is read by a paediatrician Birgit Suits.

Postnatal period – we talk about the woman's physiological recuperation after giving birth, nutrition, discomforts, emotions, and contraception. The lecture is read by a midwife Jelena Laanemets.

You may be introduced to maternity department by one of our midwives. The introduction tour is free of charge but please note that prior registration is required with the women’s counselling centre’s secretaries or by calling (+372) 447 351

On the day of introductory tour, please gather in the lobby.
